Lake Mary PD is reporting a shooting involving George Zimmerman in Central Florida. Police Chief Steve Bracknell said it appears George Zimmerman suffered a gunshot wound and his vehicle had at least one bullet hole on the passenger side.
“He walked normally into the ambulance, so he wasn’t being helped or nothing,” witness Ricardo Berrare told the station.
You may recall, in 2012, George Zimmerman, then 31 years old, was a member of a neighborhood watch group and encountered Trayvon Martin, a black, unarmed 17 year old. The tragedy resulted in the death of Martin and the eventual acquittal of Zimmerman based on the “stand-your-ground” laws. The trial and subsequent acquittal touched off several protests across the country.
Since his acquittal, Zimmerman has been involved in several incidents with law enforcement including an alleged assault by a girlfriend who later recanted her story and no charges were filed.
Later, his estranged wife called 911 claiming Zimmerman had punched her father and was threatening them with a gun. She also did no press charges.
Finally, later in 2013, Zimmerman was arrested and accused of domestic violence by his then girlfriend Samantha Scheibe. Scheibe later dropped the charges.
